If you want some good books with information on real internal power, then you should get "Xing Yi Nei Gong" by Tim Cartmell (and a few others) - it's a book on fundamentals of xingyiquan, but it has excellent descriptions of how to build up internal force amongst other things; "Old Frame Chen Family Taijiquan" by Mark Chen - again, a good description of internal power. There are a few others as well. __________________________________________________

powermago ::: Favorites 2007-10-28 11:37:28 I used to train that fighting style but then I got bored and went on to karate, karate just does much quicker punches and kicks but this is kind of slow, but I still like it. I guess that it would save some time if you didn't pose too much. __________________________________________________

batlin ::: Favorites 2007-03-03 13:08:11 That's an interesting viewpoint - most of the stuff I read or was taught seemed to imply that it was almost like some kind of magical 'energy'. This explanation seems plausible though. Great thread - pity it had to end with someone getting childishly defensive and storming out. __________________________________________________

blackjamm ::: Favorites 2007-02-23 14:07:06 Do you see xingyi as being inferior to taiji? Why? It is simpler, even more profound; it's an extremely powerful, potent form of self-defense. It covers aspects of Chinese thinking that taiji doesn't. It has a simple theory and methodology, but it goes deep. It has probably the most advanced internal training tool in martial arts - the santi posture. The fact is, all internal martial arts are almost the same. __________________________________________________
Ryooken ::: Favorites 2007-02-23 13:47:23 Then you are digressing because and learning backwards. You have gone from a circular into a straight line. I have been practicing Yang style for almost 20 years. Anyway be that as it may good luck with your practice and I am done with this conversation. __________________________________________________
blackjamm ::: Favorites 2007-02-23 13:32:10 And btw, I've been studying since I was 9 years old. Currently, I am very into xingyi, and this is my main style now, but I started with Yang-style taijiquan. The idea of "qi" power was basically due to the fact that early masters were uneducated and illiterate, and couldn't explain it any other way. Other, more intellectual, masters, such as Wang Xiangzhai, took a more scientific approach to the issue. __________________________________________________ |
